Story Behind the Story

 

Dr. Olga Gyrina, the Founder of Adonis Medial Group in Ukraine.

Imagine having the vision of growing the largest privately-owned company in your country. There’s zero evidence that this is a possibility, and many reasons NOT to pursue it:

Dr. Gyrina’s dream began 22 years ago, when communism in the Soviet Union meant that a person’s status and connections are top priorities. There’s no benefit in starting a business other than to pursue a dream.

  • As the wife of a Deputy Minister of Health, you’ve got connections and status. Why start a company that entails washing floors and cleaning test tubes?
  • You are the Chief of the Cardiology Department at the top Medical University. You have respect, and a prestigious position. Your life is safe, your comfort guaranteed. Why risk your reputation?
  • Everybody is paid the same, so making a successful company doesn’t mean higher status in the community.
  • Really, this list could go on and on!

Back then, Dr. Gyrina envisioned a company that puts customers first, leads innovation, provides opportunities, and opens doors to families who have been told they have no options.

Today, Adonis Medical Group is becoming a world leader and it all began with a burning desire to make a difference when everyone said it was the craziest, stupidest idea ever.
